Our History

Atlantic Federal Credit Union was founded in 1935 by a group of AT&T Western Electric employees in Kearny, New Jersey. They were dedicated to building a not-for-profit financial cooperative to meet their savings and borrowing needs — an especially formidable task in that depression era.

Over the years, we've grown from a one-company credit union to serving the Union and Essex County communities. We have worked hard to keep up with the times, as evidenced by our online banking and mobile banking services. Stay on top of your accounts, around the clock, no matter where you are — from your computer or mobile phone.

The cooperative spirit among our founders that marked our early beginnings also continues today. We take pride in providing outstanding financial services to our members at the lowest possible cost.

We invite you to join our financial family and take advantage of the many benefits of Atlantic Federal Credit Union membership.

For more information, please call our Member Services Department at 1-800-222-1329 or e-mail us.

  • I am writing today to commend Lynn and express my gratitude for the high quality customer service she always provides whenever I call the Credit Union.  She is professional, courteous and patient.  I can feel her smile each and every time we talk on the phone.

  • I recently had an emergency and needed a Home Equity loan quickly.  My initial contact was with Aida and the loan was finalized by Sabrina.  This was a very stressful time for me and both of these women were professional, patient, knowledgeable and considerate. They answered all of my questions, explained the various options as well as the process.  They are an asset to the Credit Union.
